We all need a “wake-up call” at certain points of our lives.

I’ve had “wake-up calls” in my life that have transformed my life professionally and personally over many years.

The majority of business owners reach a point in their business and life where they feel it is time for a change. It might be where you find yourself right now.

You might be at a place where you feel you have achieved a certain level of success but there is a need that stirs you towards a more meaningful direction in your business, as a leader and in your personal life.

Below are some situations that might resonate with you when you reflect on your business and life.

Lets’ look at the following seven situations or scenarios:

1.    You were “smooth sailing”, - effortless sailing in the past but now the water has changed. You are now in unchartered waters due to significant changes in the external environment. Did you stop in the harbour for far too long? The familiar water was easy to navigate but you are now being challenged by unfamiliar water.

2.    You ask the questions: Why Greatness? Isn’t success enough? When you reflecting on the time when you started the business:- Do you still have the same fire in your belly to pursue your dreams and take the business to a level that would reward you with a life beyond what you had thought was possible?

3.    When you do a deep, honest assessment of your team.  What is your response to the following questions: Is everyone in your team reflecting an  attitude of  greatness? Do they carry your heart, your vision in order to walk the extra mile with passion, energy, focused goals and joy?

 4.   It sometimes feels that you run at 160 km/h every day, week in week out putting out fires and focusing on activities that only produce more challenges and problems but not moving forward towards the goals you want to accomplish in the short, medium and long term

 5.    Your future picture is “blurry” with a weak vision, purpose, dreams and goals and as a result do not have the energy to navigate and mobilize your resources towards a compelling future.

 6.    You have produced a mighty company, secured wealth for your future but your exit strategy is not clear and the business is too reliant on you or visa versa. It could even be that you have become a “slave” to your business, depriving yourself of a new chapter in your life, with a new direction that is aligned with your passions and uniqueness.

 7.    Your game has changed. Why? The environment has changed drastically. What worked in the past is not working now. How have you grown and prepared yourself for the changes that have taken place?  How does that reflect in your profit and cashflow? Are you completely satisfied and feel fulfilled?

 Why do I ask the questions? 

 I would like to encourage you to push the “PAUSE button” for a moment and reflect on the scenarios above.

 Do you see yourself in one of the above scenarios?

 Is it possible that you have become used to “good” and that “Good” might stand in the way of “Great”?.

When you feel ready for your next chapter in your business and life, don’t waste time. Time is our most important asset, hence our responsibility to earn the highest return on that asset. That means in most cases that we must redefine our work to ensure the highest return on our time which will then manifest in your business and life in a significant way.

 All of us have a voice in this world. “Finding your real voice” at your business, family, community, nation is liberating and life changing.
